Home of Mencía

Luna Beberide was started thirty years ago by Bernardo Luna. He launched into winemaking in the eighties with an innovative spirit, experimenting with more than 25 grape varieties. In 1998, Mariano García, who was the Vega Sicilia winemaker for many years and founded Mauro, helped guide the winemaking for this estate which is now led by Bernardo’s son, Alejandro. The estate is committed to organic and biodynamic production with a focus on individual vineyard sites to bring out the real character of each sub-zone of the region.

The Luna Beberide Godello is aged on lees for 6 months in stainless steel tanks and has distinct notes of fennel amongst a vibrant acidity. The young Mencía comes from calcareous clay soils on south-facing slopes and is bursting with bright raspberry, red cherry and mineral notes. It offers ripe tannins and a long, fruit finish. El Paixar is made from several vineyard plots in Dragonte (Corullón), one of the best vineyard sites in Bierzo. Mencía vines between 70 and 100 years old create a complex wine with spice and balsamic vinegar with an incredible potential to age.
