A former Ancient Greek settlement with a historically ‘Greek style’ of wine, home to one of the fashion capitals of the world and the overly-hyped, Lake Como (blame Signore Nespresso), Lombardy sits astride the Po with its back nestled into the Swiss Alps. Whilst it’s mainly flat and ideal for rice cultivation, its geographical extremities are home to some unique wines.
Situated in the cru of Lugana di Sirmione and virtually straddling the Veneto border, Nunzio Ghiraldi cultivates the region’s oldest cultivars of Turbiana on the fiendishly heavy clay soils in the heart of the DOC.
