Lazio, originally Latium, is largely situated in the hills to the south of Rome. Cooled by both altitude and a number of small lakes offering perfect conditions for white grapes, Lazio’s viticulture seems to have been thoroughly ignored apart from the swill that rolls down into the Roman taverne.
The Coop of Cincinnato remains a bright spot in all this and occupies an ideal position just to the south of Cori, a town long famed for the native varieties of Bellone and Nero Buono. Further inland, Corte dei Papi sits in the heart of Cesanese del Piglio DOCG, perhaps the region’s most iconic red terroir.
